Downloading offline elevation data

SRTM offline elevation data can be directly downloaded in the Cartograph settings. Offline elevation data is used for altitude queries, track altitude fixing, offline hillshading, and the 3D view.

Note: elevation data requires a lot of space and can consume a lot of network bandwidth. It is recommended to limit elevation data usage to small regions.

Download elevation data in the app's settings

  1. Make sure that you are connected with the internet.
  2. Go to the Cartograph settings for the 3D view.
  3. Press the button “Elevation data download”.
  4. Press the button “Download SRTM data for visible region”.

Manual download

On some platforms elevation data can also be imported manually. Good sources for elevation data are:

Platform notes for manual download

  • Android: Copy the hgt files to the cached_dem folder in the Cartograph directory on the external storage.
  • iOS: Copy the hgt files using iTunes file sharing.
  • MacOS, Windows: Copy the hgt files to the cached_dem folder in the Cartograph directory (in the documents path).
  • Manual import is not supported on: MacOS (Apple Store), Windows Phone, Windows Store.
