How to create a map atlas
A map atlas is a single (usually big) image of a map. Cartograph Maps supports the creation of map atlases of up to 60000×60000 pixels. But keep in mind that such a big atlas requires around 30GB of RAM. An example atlas can be found here (245MB!, 30000×30000 pixels): http://www.cartograph.eu/v3/downloads/misc/map_atlas_example.jpg.
Map atlases can be created from loaded offline raster maps as follows:
- Load the raster map (Mapsforge raster, MBTiles, RMap, etc.) into the map view.
- Go to the Map manager and click on the loaded (active) map.
- Select “Create atlas“.
- Select the region which should be covered by the atlas and confirm your selection by pressing the green “Ok” button.
- Select a zoom level and the size of the atlas. The higher the zoom level, the more details are visible on the map.
- Start the creation of the atlas. Depending on the atlas size and your available RAM memory size this can take several minutes.
How to create a map atlas from an online map, such as OpenStreetMap?
First, use the Map tile downloader and download the target region at the zoom level which you want to use for the map atlas. From the downloaded map you can then create a map atlas as described above.
