Map plugins

Cartograph Maps (3.6.0 and newer) supports map plugins on macOS (non-app store version), Windows, and Android. Map plugins are not supported on iOS due to system restrictions.

Android

Plugins are shipped as apps on Android which run in background and provide map data to Cartograph Maps. After installation of the plugin app you can select the maps in the Map manager – “Offline maps” – “+” – “Add map from plugin“.

An example map plugin for Android can be downloaded here: https://github.com/CartographMaps/cartograph-androidapi-example

macOS and Windows

The Cartograph plugin API, and examples for macOS and Windows can be found here: https://github.com/CartographMaps/cartograph-desktop-plugin

Generally, there are two types of map plugins:

  1. Map file plugins: These are plugins which add support for new map formats to Cartograph Maps. After installation of a map file plugin you can open maps of the new type the same ways as all other offline maps.
  2. Map list plugins: These are plugins which provide a list of maps and handle everything else internally. Maps from map list plugins can be added in the Map manager – “Offline maps” – “+” – “Add map from plugin“.

iOS

Unfortunately iOS does not support plugins due to system and security restrictions.
